What’s a completely useless fact you love sharing?

Completely Useless Facts… Or Are They?

Have you ever noticed how our brains can remember the most ridiculous information, yet we can’t remember why we walked into a room?

We can remember the lyrics to a song from 1978, but forget where we put our glasses. And sometimes those glasses are sitting right on top of our heads!

Here’s a fun fact: A day on Venus is longer than a year on Venus. Imagine having a Monday that lasts longer than an entire year! No, thank you!

It’s actually a fascinating scientific fact, and yes, it’s true! But there’s a little twist.

How can a day on Venus be longer than a year?

Here on Earth, we’re used to:

One day: 24 hours (one rotation of Earth).

One year: 365 days (one trip around the Sun).

But Venus is very different!

One rotation on Venus = 243 Earth days

That’s how long Venus takes to spin once on its axis.

One year on Venus = 225 Earth days

That’s how long Venus takes to travel completely around the Sun.

So Venus actually completes an entire trip around the Sun before it finishes rotating once!

But here’s the interesting twist!

A solar day (sunrise to sunrise) on Venus is only about 117 Earth days because Venus rotates backward compared with Earth.

So the original fact refers to one complete rotation, not the time between sunrises.

And here’s where the humor comes in!

Imagine waking up on Monday morning, heading to work, and discovering that Monday lasts 243 Earth days!

You could celebrate your birthday before your coffee break was over!

And here’s something to think about: Time is something we measure, but how we experience it is another matter entirely. Five minutes laughing with someone you love can fly by, while five minutes waiting for test results can feel like an eternity.

Maybe that’s the real lesson from Venus: It’s not just how much time we have, but what we do with it that matters.

But it makes me wonder: Is knowledge ever really useless?

Sometimes the smallest, silliest things spark conversations, make us laugh, or remind us that there’s still so much about this world we don’t know.

Maybe the value of knowing something isn’t always about how useful it is. Sometimes it’s simply about the joy of learning something new.

So tell me, what’s one completely useless fact you know that you absolutely love sharing?

And please, make it good. My brain apparently has plenty of room for useless information, just not where I left my car keys!
