Storytelling- A Woman Named Eleanor

Once in a small New Mexico town, there lived a woman named Eleanor. At the age of 69, she found herself at a crossroads in life. Her children, living miles away, proposed the idea of moving closer to them. A decision that seemed like a golden opportunity to be near family in her golden years.

Eleanor, with a heart full of hope, sold her home and possessions, anticipating a tranquil life in the vicinity of her beloved family. However, the reality turned out to be quite different. Instead of having a place to call her own, as she thought according to her family: she discovered she was destined to live with her relatives, feeling like an unwelcome burden, and she was heartbroken because she loved her space and was very capable of living on her own.

The well-intentioned family couldn’t comprehend why Eleanor wasn’t overjoyed with the arrangement, they told her she could save her money from her home sale and have a good retirement.

To them, it was a gesture of love and togetherness. Yet, Eleanor’s heart was heavy with grief, sadness, and loneliness. She longed for the comfort of her own space, surrounded by her cherished possessions that are now mixed up because there is no room to see all of them.

In the story, Eleanor’s reluctance wasn’t rooted in ingratitude or selfishness. She had envisioned her twilight years in a place of her own, a haven where she could savor the solitude she craved. The abrupt change left her feeling uprooted and stifled, unable to live life on her terms.

Stubborn but resourceful, Eleanor quietly researched homes and got pre approval from local bank. She didn’t want to drain her account just in case.

The process took several months. In secret, she managed to purchase a small place, furniture and slowly removed boxes she had brought with her where she could create a sanctuary for herself. With determination and a spark of rebellion, she moved out and embarked on a new chapter of her life.

Initially met with disapproval, Eleanor’s decision to reclaim her independence was a shock to her family. However, she stood firm in her belief that happiness was a personal journey, not to be sacrificed for the sake of conformity.

Eleanor flourished in her newfound freedom, making friends and cultivating a vibrant life well into her 90s. When the time came to pass on her legacy, she left her cherished home to her grandchildren, a testament to the importance of living life authentically, true to oneself, even when it means taking a path less traveled.

  1. Resilience:
  • James 1:12 (NIV): “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”
  1. Independence:
  • Galatians 5:1 (NIV): “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

Happy Birthday Me

Today I marked the celebration of 61 years of life, and counting, and it was nothing short of amazing. While the number may suggest a certain age, most days, I don’t feel anywhere close to 61 most days I feel more like a sprightly 45-50

Not saying there are t days where I feel 75 because arthritis and osteonecrosis, keep me fully aware of all the joint pain and stiffness I have , but I like to focus on the positive.

Life has a way of keeping us young at heart. Especially when you are closer to family.

The day began with a chorus of birthday greetings from my daughter, husband, granddaughter, friends, and family. Messages flooded in through texts, Facebook, and phone calls, creating a symphony of well-wishes that warmed my heart. The unexpected knock on the door brought an exquisite orchid flower and a cheerful birthday balloon—a delightful surprise from my granddaughter.

As if that wasn’t enough, about an hour later, my granddaughter, who lives a few hours away, graced me with her presence. Her visit was the best gift imaginable, turning an already special day into an extraordinary one. We shared a lovely walk, filled with talking, some laughter and lots of love.

To cap off the festivities, my husband and I had a nice dinner and then surprised me with my guilty pleasure—a mocha frappe. Its deliciousness is a rare treat for me, making it all the more enjoyable when the occasion arises. Today was undeniably one of those occasions.

Reflecting on the day’s blessings, I’m reminded of the beauty of connections and the joy that loved ones bring into our lives. Their gestures, both big and small, added layers of happiness to this milestone day.

Gratitude fills my heart as I express my thanks to everyone who took the time to send their birthday wishes. Your kindness made my day even more special, and I’m truly grateful for each and every one of you.

As I close the chapter on this memorable day, and look for to next years 62nd bday a verse from Psalms comes to mind: “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24) Today was a day of rejoicing, and I am blessed beyond measure.

May you all have a blessed day as well.

As the countdown to Christmas begins with just 26 days left

As the countdown to Christmas begins with just 26 days left, my heart is filled with anticipation for the joyous celebration ahead. In the midst of the festive hustle and bustle, it’s essential to pause and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas—the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

In these precious days leading up to Christmas, let’s not get swept away solely by the enchantment of gifts and the whimsical tales of Santa Claus. Instead, let us take a moment to turn our hearts towards the biblical significance of this season. As we exchange presents and share in the warmth of togetherness, it’s crucial to remember the divine reason behind our celebrations.

One of my favorite Bible verses that resonates deeply with the essence of Christmas is from Luke 2:11, where the angel declares, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” This verse serves as a timeless reminder of the extraordinary event that occurred on that holy night—a gift beyond measure, the birth of our Savior.

Another poignant scripture to ponder during this season is John 3:16, a verse that encapsulates the profound love and purpose behind the nativity story: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” Christmas is, at its core, a celebration of God’s boundless love manifested through the gift of His Son.

In the midst of the festive decorations and the wrapping of presents, let’s prioritize gratitude and praise. It’s a time to express our thankfulness for the ultimate gift of salvation and to offer our heartfelt praises to the Lord. Whether through prayer, hymns, or quiet contemplation, let the true spirit of Christmas illuminate our hearts.

As the days dwindle to that magical moment, let’s carry the message of Christmas with us—a message of hope, love, and divine grace. May this holiday season be a testament to the enduring significance of Jesus Christ in our lives, as we gather with loved ones to celebrate the birth of the greatest gift humanity has ever received.

Embracing Compassion During the Holiday Break: A Call to Volunteer

As students eagerly anticipate the upcoming holiday break, filled with Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s festivities, it’s crucial to pause amidst the joy and reflect on the importance of giving back. In the midst of the holiday cheer, it’s easy to get caught up in personal celebrations, but let’s not forget the power we hold to make a positive impact on others’ lives.

Many of us are fortunate to have a comfortable life, with meals on the table and a warm place to sleep. However, it’s essential to recognize that not everyone shares the same privileges. From infants to the elderly, there are those facing daily struggles we may not fully comprehend. This holiday season, let’s make a conscious effort to extend our hands to those in need.

One impactful way to cultivate compassion and understanding is through volunteering. Consider reaching out to local organizations such as a rescue mission, children’s hospital, or food bank. Devoting just one or two days a month can make a substantial difference in the lives of others and broaden your own perspective on the challenges faced by different members of our community.

By engaging in volunteer work, you not only contribute to the well-being of those less fortunate but also gain a deeper understanding of their struggles. Whether it’s serving meals at a shelter or spending time with children in a hospital, these experiences foster empathy and remind us of the value of kindness and generosity.

This holiday season, challenge yourself to break away from the routine of personal celebrations. Invite your friends and family to join you on a journey of giving back. Consider extending your support to strangers, refugees, or those in orphanages. The impact of your time and effort can create a ripple effect of positivity and inspire those around you to do the same.

In conclusion, let’s make this holiday season more than just a time of personal joy. Embrace the spirit of compassion and generosity by volunteering and reaching out to those in need. Whether it’s a few hours at a local shelter or contributing to a food bank, your actions can make a significant difference in someone else’s life.

Wishing you all a blessed holiday season filled with the warmth that comes from helping others.

Finding Tranquility: The Essence of ‘No God, No Peace; Know God, Know Peace’

In a world filled with chaos and uncertainty, the age-old saying “No God, No Peace; Know God, Know Peace” carries profound wisdom. This mantra transcends religious boundaries, inviting us to explore the essence of inner tranquility through a connection with something greater than ourselves.

In the absence of a spiritual anchor, life can become a turbulent sea of challenges and disarray. The phrase suggests that a lack of belief in a higher power or purpose may leave one adrift, searching for meaning in a world that can often seem devoid of it. It prompts us to reflect on the role of faith in providing a sense of calm amid life’s storms.

Conversely, “Know God, Know Peace” implies that establishing a connection with the divine brings about a profound sense of inner peace. This isn’t limited to any specific religious doctrine but rather speaks to the universal human experience of seeking understanding and purpose beyond the material realm. Through this connection, individuals often find solace, guidance, and a sense of belonging that transcends the challenges of everyday life.

Exploring the idea further, one might consider the concept of God or a higher power as a metaphor for a deeper understanding of existence. Whether through religious practices, philosophical exploration, or personal introspection, the pursuit of knowledge about the nature of life and consciousness can lead to a profound sense of peace.

Ultimately, the saying encourages us to delve into the realms of spirituality, philosophy, or personal introspection to discover a source of peace that extends beyond the transient nature of our external circumstances. It invites us to ponder the significance of faith, not only in the context of organized religion but also as a broader exploration of our connection to the universe and the mysteries of existence.

In a world filled with noise and distractions, the wisdom encapsulated in “No God, No Peace; Know God, Know Peace” beckons us to embark on a journey of self-discovery and inner serenity, transcending the chaos of the external world in search of a tranquil haven within.

Overcoming Fear Part 2

In the face of life’s challenges, it’s essential to turn to faith rather than succumb to fear. Romans 8:31 reminds us that if God is for us, who can be against us? The unwavering support of a higher power encourages us to persevere even in the darkest moments.

Meditating on scripture becomes a source of solace, reinforcing the idea that God, who gave His Son for us, will provide everything we need. The message is clear: don’t quit, don’t give up. Fear should not dictate our actions; instead, we should recognize that God’s love is unconditional.

Understanding our worth in God’s eyes is crucial. Perfect love from the divine casts out fear, and we are reminded not to fear, for God is always with us. Resisting the temptations that fear presents, especially when facing adversity, is a testament to staying strong in the Lord.

The pitfalls of comparison are emphasized – comparing ourselves to others robs us of the blessings that God has uniquely tailored for us. Each individual is made perfectly by God, and recognizing this truth liberates us from the shackles of comparison.

The declaration from Psalm 118:6, “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear,” serves as a powerful affirmation. Personal experiences, such as overcoming the fear in a marriage to an abusive partner, underscore the transformative power of faith.

In conclusion, the message is clear: no matter the challenges, God’s love is unwavering. Embracing faith over fear is not just a choice; it’s a path to healing and strength. As Psalm 118:24 reminds us, “This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” May this serve as a beacon of hope for those navigating life’s uncertainties. Have a blessed day!

Overcoming Fear: Embracing Faith and God’s Promises part 1 of 2

In the journey of life, fear often creeps in, attempting to paralyze us and hinder our progress. It’s crucial to recognize that succumbing to fear allows negative influences to take root. As Christians, we are blessed with a powerful arsenal of promises found in the Bible—7000 promises, to be exact. Amidst the turbulence, the Scripture reassures us with a profound message of peace and quietude.

The adversary, Satan, cunningly seeks to undermine our faith by fostering fear. He whispers doubts, attempting to convince us that he is in control and can fulfill our desires. However, as believers, we stand firm in the truth that there is a God, and there is Jesus—the ultimate source of strength and salvation.

Confronting fear is not about never feeling it; rather, it’s about making a conscious choice when fear arises. Uttering the words “I will not fear” and acknowledging the divine presence within us empowers us to declare that the devil has no hold over us. As children of the almighty God, fear loses its grip, allowing us to navigate life with courage and confidence.

Recognizing the various types of fear that hinder us is essential. Satan often exploits fear to keep us from realizing our full potential and purpose in life. But we are reminded that in moments of fear, we can choose faith over flight.

The Book of Proverbs emphasizes prudence—wise and godly management. God has entrusted us with resources that, when managed well, lead to growth. Incorporating God into every aspect of our lives ensures that we navigate challenges with divine wisdom.

Willpower alone cannot shield us from the schemes of the devil. It’s about recognizing our unique gifts and using them for good. Like a singer needing the ability to carry a tune, we must leverage the gifts God has bestowed upon us to fulfill our purpose.

A powerful reminder comes from 1 Corinthians 1:27, highlighting the divine wisdom that surpasses worldly standards. Embracing faith and aligning our actions with God’s guidance empowers us to overcome fear, navigate life’s challenges, and fulfill the purpose for which we were created.

The path to victory over fear involves a continuous choice to trust in God’s promises, manage our resources wisely, and use our unique gifts for good. By doing what is right, even when it feels wrong, we embody the strength and courage that comes from our faith.

1 Corinthians 1 New International Version

1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes,

To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours:

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanksgiving

I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. For in him you have been enriched in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge— God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you. Therefore you do not lack any spiritual giftas you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

A Church Divided Over Leaders

10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters,[a] in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 11 My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12 What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas[b]”; still another, “I follow Christ.”

13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

Christ Crucified Is God’s Power and Wisdom

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”[c]

20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wiseby human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chosethe foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”[d]

Footnotes

  1. 1 Corinthians 1:10 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family; also in verses 11 and 26; and in 2:1; 3:1; 4:6; 6:8; 7:24, 29; 10:1; 11:33; 12:1; 14:6, 20, 26, 39; 15:1, 6, 50, 58; 16:15, 20.

A Grateful Heart: Thanksgiving Reflections and Prayer”

As we gather around tables adorned with the warmth of gratitude, let us pause to reflect on the true meaning of Thanksgiving. Whether you find yourself surrounded by loved ones or standing solitary in the quiet embrace of solitude, remember this: you are cherished.

In the tapestry of Thanksgiving, each thread is woven with the essence of love. For those who may feel the sting of loneliness, the burden of illness, or the weight of grief, let our collective hearts extend beyond the confines of our gatherings. In the quiet spaces, may you find solace in the knowledge that love transcends physical presence.

Let us offer a Thanksgiving prayer for those grappling with solitude, illness, or grief:

“Dear Creator, on this day of thanks, we lift our hearts to those who walk a path of loneliness, sickness, or grief. Wrap them in the comforting embrace of your love, reminding them that they are not alone. Grant them strength to endure and courage to face each day with hope. May the spirit of Thanksgiving bring solace to their hearts and healing to their souls. Amen.”

As we savor the blessings of this day, let us also remember that giving back is not confined to a single holiday. In every moment, the opportunity to extend kindness presents itself. Whether through a smile, a helping hand, or a thoughtful gesture, let us cultivate a spirit of generosity that transcends the boundaries of time and seasons.

This Thanksgiving, let the echoes of gratitude linger in our hearts, prompting us to give back not only on this holiday but every day. For in the tapestry of life, every thread of kindness we weave contributes to a richer, more compassionate world.

May your Thanksgiving be filled with love, warmth, and the enduring spirit of gratitude.

Shining Light on Shadows: Breaking the Silence on Holiday Abuse

Amid the festive facade, it’s vital to recognize the hidden struggles within closed doors—physical and mental abuse affecting women, children, men, and seniors. In times of heightened stress, such as job loss or financial strain, abuse can escalate, exacerbated by factors like alcohol, drugs, and gambling during football season.

Five Lines for Support:

  1. You are not alone. If you or someone you know is facing abuse, verbal, mental, physical, financial reach out to a trusted friend or family member.
  2. Seek help from local domestic violence hotlines or shelters, providing a safe haven for those escaping abuse.
  3. National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-SAFE (7233)
  4. Be a lifeline for someone in need; share these resources, because silence can perpetuate the cycle of abuse.
  5. Remember, your safety matters. If in immediate danger, call emergency services.

During this season of togetherness, let’s extend our care beyond celebrations, ensuring that everyone has the support they need to break free from the shadows of abuse.
