Contrast this with the humble soul, depicted as a grain of wheat buried in the earth. Humility, in Saint Mary Baouardy’s analogy, involves descending, hiding oneself, disappearing, and even dying to the ego. Humble individuals do not seek the spotlight or crave recognition. Instead, they willingly submit themselves to something greater than their own desires and ambitions.

To be like the grain of wheat in the earth means embracing a profound sense of selflessness. It involves recognizing that our true value lies not in our worldly accomplishments or the admiration of others, but in our connection to something divine and transcendent. So we know negative Pride is demeaning other people or feeling an aversion to others. Instead of nurturing self-growth, we compete and want to defeat others.

Relationships

Pride will undo a relationship faster than anything else I’ve seen. People will credit their pride for hanging on to grudges well beyond the expiration date. It’s hard to witness sheer stubbornness keeping spouses or families apart. Pride will tell us that the other person doesn’t deserve to be forgiven, or that we could never be in the wrong. Pride will fool us in to believing that we should get whatever we want no matter the price; and that we’re above the rules for everyone else. Jesus tells us to worry about the plank of wood in our own eye before the speck in someone else’s (Matthew 7:3). Pride is the author of hypocrisy that makes equally giving love and respect in relationships impossible.

Peace

When we allow pride to tell us that we’re better than others it will rob all sense of peace. There will always be jealousy and the constant need to compare. ‘Keeping up with the Joneses’ and focusing on appearances will lead only to a chronic state of discontent. This will enrage pride to make us try even harder to do or be more, which is a slippery slope to a whole host of bad decisions. At the end, we won’t be able to feel satisfied or a true sense of accomplishment. That critical inner voice will pop up saying that it still wasn’t good enough. Pride breeds perfectionism, and perfectionism often runs straight to anxiety, (ironically) low self-esteem, and a lack of joy.      

Eternity

Those filled with pride don’t always think about their eternity (perhaps because they already feel deserving of one), yet they should because pride is considered an abomination to God. There are many, many examples God gives about bringing the proud low and lifting up the humble (James 4:6). God opposes the proud, which makes those with ongoing pride His adversary. In essence our pride is an attempt to put ourselves on His level and negate the need for grace. It’s impossible for Godly righteousness and pride to coexist. Proud people may do good works, however it’s usually for the sake of their own praise. Pride will stymie true compassion for others as well as genuine repentance for our own sin. In short, pride separates us from God. 

“Pride is at the bottom of all great mistakes” (John Ruskin). God warns about pride with all seriousness and we must as well. There is a reason that we cling to it though. Behind pride is often a world of hurt that has been stuffed down and covered with a façade of hubris.

When you accomplish something and feel really good about it, that isn’t pride. It’s delight. Being proud of, or prideful about, your work means that you need everyone to know that you did it. To let everyone else brag about what you may have done you don’t need to because if you’ve really done some thing to help someone they will talk about it.

The “Let Them, ” Theory: Finding Peace in Letting Go

In life, we often find ourselves entangled in situations that evoke emotions we can’t control. We become invested in outcomes that aren’t within our grasp. Today, I’d like to introduce you to a theory the “Let Them” theory. It’s a simple yet profound concept that encourages us to relinquish control over things we can’t change and focus on what truly matters.

Have you ever felt hurt because a few friends didn’t invite you to lunch? Or maybe your partner decided to spend the day dirt bike riding or fishing or watching sports when you were hoping for quality time together. Perhaps you expected a raise at work, but it went to someone hired after you, that you trained! These are common scenarios where we get emotionally charged over situations beyond our control.

The “Let Them” theory teaches us to, well, let them. It’s a reminder that we can’t dictate every aspect of our lives or expect people to conform to our desires. Everyone in our circle is an individual with their own thoughts and ways of doing things. We must recognize this individuality and allow people to be themselves. No matter how crazy it may drive us some days where no matter how bad we want to tell them what they’re doing is not correct we have to let go and let them.

If someone you’re attracted to isn’t ready for commitment, let them. If your kids decide they’d rather go to a party than a ballet show you’d planned and bought tickets for months ago, let them. If your partner, friend, family member, or boss isn’t meeting your expectations, let them.

No, I’m not suggesting we allow our friends and family and loved ones to do things dangerous that would put them in harms way, because we absolutely should intervene because we love them and there are times when people don’t often do things clearly or rationally or stray off the path a little bit, and it is up to us to help them back on the right path.

But in every day situations whether we think because they bought a car last year and wanna trade that car in and buy another one this year is wrong we have to let them, or whether the boss decides to give somebody else that promotion he promised you a month ago or because we’re not getting the time with our spouse significant other boyfriend whatever we have to let go and let them let them be there self.

Why? Because when you let them be themselves, it reveals their true nature. It shows you who they are without the influence of your expectations. And then, it’s up to you to decide your next move. Maybe you’ll choose to communicate, compromise, or even distance yourself. The key is that you regain control over your own reactions and decisions.

Attempting to control every aspect of our lives and the people in it only leads to frustration and disappointment. It’s a path to emotional exhaustion. True peace comes from letting go and embracing the uniqueness of those around us.

So, the next time life presents a situation where you can’t control the outcome, remember the “Let Them” theory. Release your grip on the uncontrollable, and you’ll find serenity in accepting people as they are. In the end, by letting them, you empower yourself to make choices that align with your own values and desires.

Hello, everyone! I hope you’ve been well. I apologize for my brief absence; it’s been a whirlwind of activity as we prepare for our big move from Ohio to the sunny shores of Florida. But today, I’m excited to share with you an unexpected blessing that has recently come my way.

You see, I’m an avid genealogy and history enthusiast. Whether it’s local history, state government, worldwide events, or the intricacies of family history, I’m captivated by it all. For me, delving into genealogy was an absolute must.

The Mystery of My Maternal Grandmother:
My journey into the world of genealogy took an intriguing turn because of my maternal grandmother. She was born in 1902, and as many of you might be aware, the record-keeping practices of that time left much to be desired. Even today, obtaining adoption information from courts can be a challenging endeavor. My grandmother, however, knew she was adopted but seldom spoke about it. When she passed away at the remarkable age of 94 in 1996, I made it my mission to uncover the truth about her origins.

The Quest for Answers:
From 1997 onwards, I embarked on a relentless pursuit to unearth the secrets of my grandmother’s past. I can still vividly recall spending endless hours in libraries, poring over dusty records, and combing through archives. Back then, home computers weren’t as common as they are today, so the library became my haven for research.

The Surprising Discovery:
Recently, as I was going through old boxes of belongings, a hodgepodge of memories accumulated over the years, I stumbled upon a tattered book titled “America Illustrated,” dating back to the late 19th century. My love for books compelled me to keep it, and little did I know that within its fragile pages lay the answers I had been seeking for over two decades.

Inside the pages of this aged book were documents that illuminated my grandmother’s early years spent in an orphanage. Astonishingly, the answer to my lifelong question had been tucked away in a storage closet right next to our apartment all these years. It’s incredible to think that my mother had possession of this crucial piece of our family history before her passing in 2000.

Reflections and Unexpected Blessings:
As we approach the latter part of 2023, I find myself reflecting on this incredible journey. For 23 years, I unknowingly carried the key to my grandmother’s true identity with me, hidden in plain sight. It’s a powerful reminder that life’s most profound blessings can often be right under our noses, waiting for the perfect moment to reveal themselves.

Moving Forward:
In conclusion, I want to emphasize the importance of remaining open to life’s unexpected blessings. It was my granddaughter, Celina, who presented us with the incredible opportunity to move to Florida. This move has brought my daughter and me closer than ever, and we’re on the verge of settling into a beautiful new home. While this journey has been at times chaotic and daunting, it has been nothing short of thrilling.

I stand before you today, not as a preacher, but as a fellow traveler on this journey of faith. Romans 12 reminds us that God has blessed each of us with a measure of faith. And as I reflect on this gift, I can’t help but think that Jesus didn’t sacrifice himself so we could live lives of constant struggle and frustration.

Faith, a word often tossed around, can sometimes be met with skepticism or indifference. It’s as if we’ve forgotten the power it holds in transforming our lives. But I’m here to tell you that faith is not just a concept; it’s a way of living that brings peace, love, understanding, and joy.

Have you ever noticed how we trust in so many things in our daily lives? We trust that our chairs won’t collapse when we sit on them, our cars will be where we parked them, and our paychecks will arrive on time. Yet, when it comes to trusting God, we often hesitate.

Faith means surrendering our problems to God and truly letting go. It’s not about handing them over only to spend the rest of the day worrying or attempting to find our own solutions. Faith means giving up control and trusting that God’s timing and plan are perfect.

Perhaps you’re facing challenges in your marriage, your relationships with others, or in your daily life. It’s time to give those struggles to God and have faith that He will handle them. We all have faith; you wouldn’t be reading this if you didn’t. It’s time to apply that same faith to trust God fully.

I’ve learned that faith isn’t just about reading and learning; it’s about continuous renewal. In the face of a cynical world, we must keep stoking our faith’s flames. The Apostle Paul understood this when he shared the same stories repeatedly, rekindling people’s faith.

If you find yourself confused or burdened, it’s a sign that you need to work on your faith in that area. Trusting God means releasing your problems to Him and leaving them there. It’s about ceasing your attempts to figure things out on your own, acknowledging that God has control and will work things out according to His plan.

Faith isn’t just about talking; it’s about releasing. There are three ways to release your faith: through prayer, through declaration, and through action. Your inheritance from God doesn’t require you to earn it; you simply need to believe and act on it.

When you truly understand and accept God’s love and mercy, you become less harsh on yourself and others. You no longer need to punish yourself for mistakes. Instead, you’ll embrace God’s mercy, leading to a more tender heart towards others.

Galatians 2:20 reminds us that it’s no longer we who live but Christ in us, and we live by faith. Life isn’t meant to be a constant struggle. We are more than conquerors through Christ, and we should live our lives with that confidence.

Remember, faith changes things, moves mountains, and solves problems. Although it might not bring instant results, it will lead to victory if you hold on. Trust God consistently, not just in times of crisis. Let your faith be unwavering.

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it’s easy to get caught up in the constant presence of others. We attend meetings, social gatherings, and church services, all while surrounded by people. However, there is a profound lesson to be learned from a moment in the life of Jesus when He intentionally sought solitude on a mountainside with His disciples.

The passage in John 6:3 tells us that “Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples.” It’s important to note that just before this moment, Jesus had withdrawn from the pressing crowds who were pursuing Him. He deliberately chose solitude, and there’s a significant reason for this choice.

There are certain lessons, revelations, and experiences that we can only encounter when we are alone with God. While the fellowship of the church is invaluable, and we can certainly learn and grow in the presence of other believers, there exists a unique depth of spiritual intimacy that can only be found in solitude with the Divine.

In our world filled with constant activity and noise, it’s become increasingly rare for individuals to carve out moments of stillness and silence. Yet, these moments of aloneness with God are vital for our spiritual growth and preparation for the tasks ahead.

A.W. Tozer, in his book “Faith Beyond Reason,” beautifully expresses the concept of spiritual preparation through solitude. He highlights the importance of coming before God in silence and quietness, waiting until we are charged with His Spirit. It’s in these moments of divine encounter that we are tuned like a violin, recharged like a battery, and poised to carry out our activities with purpose and power.

Much like Jesus on that mountainside, when we prioritize alone time with God, we become vessels ready to receive His guidance, strength, and wisdom. We step into the flow of divine life, allowing it to permeate our souls and equip us for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Hello, dear readers! It’s that time of year again – the Canfield Fair is in full swing, and in my part of Ohio, that signals the official end of summer. This fair, the largest county fair in the state, has a way of marking the transition from long, lazy days to the crisp embrace of autumn. As I prepare to post some of my favorite fair moments on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok by Labor Day evening, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the highlights of my summer.

As I look back on the past few months, it’s difficult to pinpoint a single “best part” because each summer has its unique charm. Whether it’s a BBQ, a day at the beach, or simply enjoying the warm sunsets, or packing to move and have a new start , every moment is a treasure.

Hailing from Croatia with an associate’s degree in fine art, Anna’s thirst for knowledge and passion for her craft led her to pursue a master’s degree in Washington DC. But her path was far from easy. As she balanced her studies, work, and the pursuit of improving her English, Anna’s commitment to her goals was unwavering.

For three long years, she dedicated 10 to 15 hours every week as a volunteer at the local art gallery, a place where she found solace and connection. Her spirit remained unbroken as she juggled multiple part-time jobs to pay rent and make ends meet, often subsisting on meager meals. Yet, even in the midst of exhaustion, Anna continued to volunteer, finding strength in her dream and the art that surrounded her.
