Seeking God in the Bible: A 10-Minute Daily Guide

The Bible is a profound source of spiritual wisdom and insight for millions around the world. For those looking to connect with God and understand His purpose, it can be a guiding light. In this blog post, we’ll explore how to look for God in the Bible and provide a simple guide to reading it daily for just 10 minutes.

  1. Start with an Open Heart:

To truly find God in the Bible, approach it with an open heart and mind. Set aside any preconceived notions, and be willing to listen and learn.

  1. Prayer:

Begin with a brief prayer, asking for guidance and understanding. As mentioned in Matthew 7:7, asking is the first step in seeking God.

  1. Select a Specific Passage:

You don’t need to read the entire Bible in one go. Choose a specific passage, verse, or story that resonates with you. It could be a favorite scripture or something relevant to your current situation.

  1. Read Slowly and Reflect:

Take your chosen passage and read it slowly. Reflect on the words and their meaning. Consider how they relate to your life and the world around you.

  1. Ask Questions:

As you read, ask yourself questions. What is the message? How does it apply to your life? What can you learn from it? This interactive approach deepens your understanding.

  1. Keep a Journal:

Maintain a journal to record your thoughts, insights, and any personal revelations. This practice can help you track your spiritual journey over time.

  1. Consistency is Key:

Reading the Bible for just 10 minutes each day can yield profound results over time. Consistency is more important than quantity.

  1. Use Bible Apps and Resources:

There are numerous Bible apps and websites that offer daily devotionals, plans, and verse recommendations. These can help you stay on track and provide insights.

  1. Seek Guidance:

If you’re struggling to understand a particular passage, don’t hesitate to seek guidance from a trusted friend, pastor, or religious leader. Discussion can lead to deeper insights.

  1. Apply What You Learn:

Ultimately, the goal is not just to find God in the Bible but to apply what you learn to your daily life. Practice the principles and values you discover in your readings.

Finding God in the Bible is a personal and transformative journey. As Jesus encouraged, asking, seeking, and knocking will open the door to spiritual discovery. By dedicating just 10 minutes a day to reading the Bible, you can deepen your understanding, build a stronger connection with God, and find meaning and purpose in your life. Approach this journey with an open heart and a commitment to consistency, and you will discover the richness of God’s word.

A Prayer for Times When God’s Plan Is Unseen

When life stands still, hearing God’s guidance becomes challenging, like an elusive event that sporadically occurs. Even in our daily devotion and prayers, it can feel as though no doors open, leaving us with only silence.

Salvation is not just about believing in the Savior and anticipating eternity with Him; it’s about gaining a lifelong companion in the Holy Spirit, who dwells within us. Seeking the Lord allows the Holy Spirit to provide wisdom, guidance, and comfort.

Throughout my life, I’ve actively chosen to follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance for major decisions. When choices loomed, God would close all but one door, revealing His path. Now, as I wait for a door to open on my current journey, my hope wanes.

Before hope fades entirely, I turn to the Word of God, my wellspring of life. Flipping to the Psalms, I find solace in David’s timeless words, feeling his vulnerability as he cried out to the Lord.

The waiting period can be more challenging than receiving a clear “no.” Yet, I know that God’s timing is perfect, and His silence is His message to wait on Him.

In prayer, I recall God’s promise of perfect timing and His eternal plan. I admit my struggle, fearing God can’t hear me. But I resolve to draw closer to Him, resisting the temptation to take matters into my own hands.

As we all navigate life’s deserts and endure growing silence, I pray for comfort and peace. May the Holy Spirit remind us that God is present even in the unknown.

I pray for the day when that one door will open. I pray that our trust and faith in God remain unshaken. We love and trust you, our Father, Friend, and Confidant. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart daily? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? Consider and hear me, O LORD my God” Psalm 13:1-3

Finding Faith (Storytelling)

Once, there lived a brilliant psychiatrist named Dr. Edward Grant, a staunch believer in science and reason. He had dedicated his life to understanding and explaining the human mind through the lens of scientific knowledge. His unwavering commitment to empiricism earned him respect and recognition in the field of psychology.

Dr. Grant had a younger brother, Samuel, who had always been the polar opposite. Samuel was a man of deep faith, a preacher who found solace and meaning in religion. Their differences had never strained their relationship until one fateful day when Samuel fell seriously ill.

Samuel’s condition baffled even the most experienced doctors. He suffered from a rare and mysterious ailment that defied conventional medical explanations. The family was at a loss, and it was in this moment of crisis that Dr. Grant’s commitment to science began to waver. He watched his brother’s health deteriorate rapidly, and the most advanced medical treatments seemed futile.

One evening, as Dr. Grant sat by his brother’s bedside, he noticed a small, well-worn Bible on the nightstand. Samuel had always kept it there, a source of comfort and guidance throughout his life. Dr. Grant had never paid much attention to it before, but now, desperate to help his brother, he decided to open it and read.

He began to read passages about faith, healing, and miracles. The words, once dismissed as mere superstition, started to resonate with him. Dr. Grant, the man of science, found himself praying, something he had never done before. In that moment, he made a silent plea for his brother’s recovery.

Days turned into weeks, and the situation remained dire, but Dr. Grant’s transformation was undeniable. He started to attend church with Samuel, seeking solace and hope in the sermons and the congregation’s support. His colleagues were astonished at the change in the once-strictly rational psychiatrist.

Then, against all odds, something remarkable happened. Samuel’s condition began to improve. Doctors couldn’t explain it, but his health steadily returned. Dr. Grant was filled with a mixture of astonishment, gratitude, and newfound faith.

As Samuel’s health continued to improve, Dr. Grant learned a profound lesson. Science had its limits, and there were aspects of life that couldn’t be explained by reason alone. He now understood that faith, in its own way, was a powerful force, capable of providing strength and healing in the face of life’s most challenging trials.

The story of the psychiatrist who came to believe in the power of faith, through the journey of his brother’s recovery, became an inspiring tale of the harmony that could exist between science and faith. Dr. Grant continued his work in the field of psychology, but now, with a more open heart and a recognition that there were mysteries in life that even the most brilliant minds could not fully comprehend.

The Challenging Path of Following Jesus: Embracing Faith Amidst Life’s Trials

When we decide to serve God and follow the path of Jesus, we often anticipate a smoother, problem-free journey. However, the reality is quite different. The devil may try to convince us that serving God means a life free of difficulties, but in truth, we encounter challenges and trials. In this blog post, we explore the idea that following Jesus doesn’t eliminate problems but provides us with something far more precious.

The Misconception of a Trouble-Free Life:
Choosing to serve God doesn’t mean that all our problems will magically disappear. Life’s trials, challenges, and obstacles will still be present. Following Jesus is not a guarantee of an easy, carefree existence.

The Value of Walking with Christ:
It’s important to recognize that even amidst life’s difficulties, our worst day with Jesus is far better than our best day without Him. When we choose to follow Jesus, we are never alone, and we don’t have to face life’s challenges in isolation. He is our constant companion and source of strength.

The Reality of Being a Christian:
Being a Christian is far from easy, and it doesn’t equate to a problem-free life. However, it is undoubtedly one of the best decisions we can make. Through our faith, we find a deeper purpose and a profound connection with the divine.

Living Out Our Faith:
Hearing and reading the Word of God is essential, but it’s just the beginning. The true essence of Christianity lies in living out our faith. It’s not enough to know God’s teachings; we must apply them in our daily lives.

I want to be kind to those who are not kind to me.

I want to bear good fruit

I want to be good to those who are not good to me.

I want to be nice to others on days I feel like crap and just want to be alone.

I want to be like Jesus

I want power over the devil.

Two Bible Verses to Encourage Your Journey:

  1. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV) – “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” This verse reminds us that in our weakness, we find God’s strength.
  2. James 1:22 (NIV) – “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” This verse reinforces the importance of not just hearing or reading the Word but actively living according to it.

Choosing to serve God and follow Jesus is a decision that may not remove life’s challenges, but it provides us with something far greater—unwavering faith, a constant companion, and the strength to overcome. Being a Christian is not about an easy path, but it is undoubtedly the best journey we can embark upon. It’s a call to live out our faith, to be a light in the world, and to trust that God’s grace is sufficient, even in our weaknesses.

Embracing Friday the 13th: Overcoming Superstitions and Spreading Positivity

Friday the 13th has long been associated with superstitions and fear, with some people dreading the day while others embrace it as a symbol of good luck. In this post, we’ll explore the myths and realities surrounding this day, and share how we can overcome superstitions to make it an amazing day for ourselves and those around us.

The Superstition of Friday the 13th:
For centuries, people have harbored superstitions about Friday the 13th, leading to the creation of the term “Triskaidekaphobia” to describe the fear of this date. It’s a fear so ingrained that it has influenced various aspects of society. Buildings often skip naming a 13th floor, and airlines report decreased flight bookings on this day. Even in the financial world, some investors choose to defer their investments to avoid the perceived bad luck.

Overcoming Fear:
While superstitions can have a psychological impact on people, it’s essential to remember that Friday the 13th is just a date, like any other. Instead of letting fear control our lives, we can choose to face this day with positivity and optimism.

Making Friday the 13th an Amazing Day:

  1. Invest with Confidence: Challenge the superstitions and invest on Friday the 13th, reminding yourself that your success depends on your knowledge and decisions, not the date.
  2. Acts of Kindness: Spread positivity by doing something nice for someone. It could be as simple as buying a stranger a coffee or holding the door open for someone. These small acts of kindness can make the day better for both you and others.
  3. Read Your Bible: Take a moment to reflect and find inspiration in your faith. Spend 5-10 minutes reading a passage from the Bible to center yourself and find strength.

Bible Verse:
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

Positive Quote:
“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

Friday the 13th may carry superstitions, but it’s up to us how we choose to perceive and experience it. By rejecting fear and embracing positivity, we can make this day truly amazing for ourselves and those around us. Remember, it’s just a number on the calendar, and our actions and attitudes determine the outcome of our day.

Tell me what you did today to be a blessing to others?

Understanding God’s Ways When Prayers for Healing Go Unanswered

In Jeremiah 17:14, we find the poignant words: “Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the One I praise.” These words resonate through the ages, capturing the essence of faith in divine healing.

As we reflect on the life of Jesus, we see that His mere presence had a profound impact on those seeking healing. It wasn’t His robe that held mystical power, but rather His omnipotence as the Savior of the world.

In the face of illness today, many of us echo the hopeful prayer of the woman in the Bible: “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” It’s a beautiful expression of faith. However, there are moments when our prayers for physical healing go unanswered.

Why does this happen? Some may believe they lack faith, while others turn away from God in disappointment. Yet, at the heart of the matter lies an eternal truth: Sometimes, God chooses not to heal.

Here are four biblical reasons to ponder when grappling with the mystery of unanswered prayers for healing:

  1. He Sees the Beginning from the End:
God’s perspective transcends our limited view. He knows the entire timeline of creation, from beginning to end. We must trust that His ways are higher than ours, even when we yearn for immediate comfort and healing. Ecclesiastes 3:11, Isaiah 44:6, and Revelation 22:13 remind us of God’s sovereignty.
  2. He Wants to Save:
While physical healing is a heartfelt desire, God’s ultimate aim is the healing of our hearts unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10 assures us that those who call upon Jesus and believe in Him are saved. Sometimes, unanswered prayers for physical healing are a means to draw people to God for eternal healing.
  3. Our Days Are Numbered:
Accepting that our days are predetermined can be challenging, especially when we question the timing and circumstances of death. However, verses from Psalm 139:16, Job 14:5-6, and Hebrews 9:27-28 emphasize the divine plan. In our pain and loss, we must hold onto the promise of a future without tears, sickness, or pain (Revelation 21:4).
  4. His Ways Are Not Our Ways:
God’s wisdom surpasses our understanding. His decisions may seem perplexing, much like a parent’s choices may appear unjust to a child. However, true faith is rooted in trusting that God knows what is best, even when it comes to healing.

Remember – the woman in Mark chapter five and her simple yet profound words: “If I only touch His cloak, I will be healed.” Hold on to faith, trusting in a sovereign God, even when physical healing remains elusive.

Finding Faith and Hope Amidst Challenging Times

In today’s world, we often find ourselves facing unprecedented challenges. It sometimes feels as though rudeness and judgment are all around us, making it difficult to see the kindness and love that should define our interactions with one another. But in the midst of these struggles, there is a message of hope and acceptance that I want to share with you.

As someone who has faced judgment and hurtful words at one point or another, I understand the pain it can bring. It’s disheartening to encounter those who claim to follow a path of faith but seem to fall short of the compassion and understanding that we all need. However, I’m here to remind you that there is a source of unwavering love and acceptance waiting for you.

Jesus Christ’s message is clear: He loves you just as you are. You are not defined by the judgments of others or by the hurtful words they may speak. God created you perfectly, and His desire is to have a relationship with you, if you’re willing to invite Him into your life.

It starts with a simple prayer, like this one:

“Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and that I need your love and guidance in my life. I surrender my life to you and invite you to come in and help me find my way. I am grateful for your sacrifice for me and for all of humanity. Thank you. Amen.”

If you’ve said this prayer, you’ve taken the first step towards a spiritual rebirth. Now, let me offer you some guidance on your journey:

  1. Read the Bible: The Bible is a valuable source of wisdom and comfort. Start by reading passages that resonate with you, and seek to understand God’s message.
  2. Find a Bible-Based Church: If you can attend a church in person, look for one that aligns with your beliefs and values. It’s a great place to connect with a community of faith.
  3. Explore Televangelists: If mobility is an issue, consider tuning into the teachings of televangelists like Joyce Meyer or Joel Osteen. They can provide spiritual guidance and inspiration from the comfort of your home.
  4. Practice Gratitude: Every day, take a moment to thank God for at least three things in your life. This practice can help you focus on the positive and cultivate a grateful heart.

Remember, I’m here to answer any questions you may have along the way. You are not alone on this journey of faith. May you have a blessed day, filled with the love and grace of our Lord.

Blessings,
Deb

Embracing Balance

Embracing Balance: Finding Peace Beyond Food Worries and Extreme Exercise

Have you ever woken up feeling the weight of worry about every morsel, every calorie, and every exercise you plan to do throughout the day? It’s a struggle many of us face in a world that often bombards us with ideals of what we should eat and how we should look. But what if, instead of being consumed by these worries, we could find a way to give ourselves grace and surrender our food choices, exercise routines, and even our lives to a higher power?

In a culture that places immense emphasis on “clean eating” and intense exercise regimens, it’s easy to become trapped in a cycle of self-criticism and exhaustion. We can get caught up in monitoring every bite, scrutinizing every morsel, and obsessing over every step we take. However, it’s important to remember that true well-being encompasses not just physical health, but also mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

The Bible speaks to this in the concept of inviting Jesus into our lives. Just as Jesus doesn’t force his way in but waits for an invitation, we too have the power to invite balance, grace, and surrender into our lives. By releasing the need for constant control and trusting in a higher power, we can free ourselves from the suffocating grip of perfectionism and extreme behavior.

It’s worth noting that taking care of our bodies is important. Our bodies are the vessels through which we experience life, and treating them with respect is an act of self-love. Avoiding harmful habits like smoking and illicit drugs, choosing nourishing foods, and engaging in regular exercise are all ways to honor the temple that is our body.

However, there’s a distinction between mindful self-care and becoming consumed by it. The pursuit of health should enhance our lives, not dominate them. Instead of scrutinizing every calorie and tirelessly exercising to “make up” for perceived dietary mishaps, we can find balance by practicing self-compassion and offering ourselves grace.

Here are a few steps to help you embrace this balance:

  1. Shift Your Perspective: Acknowledge that you are more than the sum of your food choices and exercise routines. Your worth is not determined by them.
  2. Practice Mindful Awareness: Pay attention to your body’s signals. Eat when you’re hungry, and stop when you’re satisfied. Engage in exercise that brings you joy rather than punishment.
  3. Invite Surrender: In moments of anxiety or obsession, consciously surrender control to a higher power. Trust that you are supported and guided.
  4. Embrace Self-Compassion: Treat yourself as you would a dear friend. Offer understanding and kindness when things don’t go as planned.
  5. Cultivate Gratitude: Reflect on the many things your body does for you beyond its appearance. Focus on its strength, resilience, and capacity to experience life.
  6. Connect with Your Spirituality: If you’re spiritual, engage in practices that deepen your connection. Whether through prayer, meditation, or reflection, find moments of peace and guidance.

Finding a balance between taking care of our bodies and nurturing our overall well-being is a journey worth embarking on. Embrace grace, release the need for extreme control, and invite surrender into your life. Remember that there is only one you, perfectly created, and deserving of gentleness and love. As you navigate this path, may you discover a renewed sense of freedom, peace, and appreciation for the intricate and beautiful person that you are.

“Truth vs. Myth: Unmasking the Reality of People’s Lives”

In the complex tapestry of human relationships, there often lies a struggle between letting people believe in myths and sharing the harsh truth. It’s a delicate balance that many of us face, especially when dealing with individuals whose actions and character have been shrouded in deception or myth. Sometimes, the truth needs to be revealed, even if it’s uncomfortable, to prevent perpetuating falsehoods.

A Personal Journey:
Many of us have faced situations where we’ve grappled with revealing the truth about someone’s character. Take, for example, the story of a past relationship, like the one experienced by the author concerning her first husband. In an attempt to protect her daughter, she initially refrained from speaking ill of him. However, as her daughter grew older, the truth inevitably came to light. The abuse, cruelty, and controlling nature of the ex-husband became apparent.

The Importance of Truth:
In cases where individuals have inflicted harm, abused power, or lived dishonest lives, it’s crucial to acknowledge the truth. The truth may be painful, but it serves as a vital lesson for future generations. It prevents the dangerous myth-making that can occur when we overlook or sugarcoat the actions of those who have done harm.

Balancing Forgiveness and Wisdom:
God indeed encourages forgiveness, but not at the expense of wisdom. It’s possible to forgive without being naive. Acknowledging the truth does not mean stirring up trouble or seeking revenge; it’s about learning from the past to ensure a better future.

Breaking the Myth:
It’s not uncommon for society to elevate certain individuals to sainthood after their passing, even when their actions were far from saintly. This happens in cases involving abusive parents, criminals, or those who have harmed others. It’s essential to break the myth, not out of malice, but out of a responsibility to truth and justice.

Counting Blessings:
Sometimes, not knowing one’s parents or grandparents may be a blessing in disguise. There could be compelling reasons why certain individuals were absent from one’s life. These reasons might include a history of abuse, addiction, or other harmful behaviors.

In the end, we should heed the lessons of our past and the guidance of our faith. While forgiveness is a noble virtue, it should not lead us to turn a blind eye to the truth. Revealing the reality of someone’s character, especially when they have caused harm, can be an act of compassion and a safeguard against perpetuating myths that can harm others. God calls us to be both forgiving and wise, striking a balance that ensures justice and a path toward healing and wholeness.

Joy

Hello and welcome to this amazing Sunday I’m so glad you’re here with me in sunny Florida. I appreciate your loyalty and support so much.
In today’s post, we’re going to explore the Bible and see what God says about joy. And then we’re going to learn tons of ways to find joy in the ordinary as well as ways to find joy in the journey. There’s absolutely no reason that we should be unhappy in this life we lead. Yet most of us are. We’re so focused on the end goal, that we forget to enjoy the moments along the way. It’s time we changed that, don’t you think? So, let’s dive in.

I think this will stretch out over a couple posts, because there is a lot to say on this.

What is the difference between happiness and joy?
Many people wonder if there even is a difference between the two. Let’s look at the definitions. Dictionary.com defines happiness as “the quality or state of being happy; good fortune; pleasure, contentment; joy.” I believe in this definition, the key word is “state.” I looked up the definition of state and found, “the condition of a person or thing, as with respect to circumstances.” In other words happiness is temporary and depends on what’s happening.

Joy, on the other hand, is defined as “the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure; elation.” If you are a child of God, that “something that is exceptionally good” comes from the Lord. Joy is part of who you are. It’s a fruit of the spirit.
Your joy doesn’t go away when something bad happens, like someone cutting you off in traffic or having a bad day. In other words, it is completely normal to experience joy in the ordinary, everyday aspects of life.
I believe that there is a very real difference between happiness and joy. Joy is a conviction from the heart that comes from the Lord. It’s an internal emotion that doesn’t change regardless of what’s happening on any given day. Happiness, on the other hand, is a surface-level emotion that’s based on external factors.

How can we be happy according to the Bible?
The Bible has a lot to say about happiness, but it uses a different word: joy. Joy is not a feeling that depends on our circumstances, but a gift that comes from God. When we trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, we receive the Holy Spirit, who fills us with joy and assures us of our eternal salvation. Joy is not something we have to work for, but something we already have in Christ.

One of the ways we can experience joy is by bearing the fruit of the Spirit. This means living in a way that reflects the character of God, who lives in us. The fruit of the Spirit has nine aspects, and joy is one of them. Joy is not something we do, but something we are. It is the result of following Jesus and staying connected to him.

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

How can we enjoy the simple things in life?
The Bible also teaches us to be content with what we have and to give thanks in all circumstances. This means that we can find joy in the simple things in life, not just in the big events or achievements. We can appreciate the beauty of God’s creation, the warmth of a cup of coffee, the intimacy with our spouse and the hugs from our children. We can slow down and savor the moments that make life meaningful.

One way to do this is to be more spontaneous and creative. We can break the routine and try something new. We can surprise our loved ones with a note or a gift. We can have a picnic in the backyard or a movie night on the couch. We can make every day an adventure and an opportunity to show love.

Life is not a destination, but a journey. And joy is not a destination, but a companion. Let’s enjoy the ride with God and with each other.

Part 2 will be posted Thursday

See you all tomorrow
