Hey everyone, it’s debbie here. Today, I want to talk about the power hope and faith in challenging times.
We often hear people saying “I hope everything works out” or ” Lets hope things get better,” but what does HOPE really mean? Hope is the expectation that something good is going to happen.
When faced with bad news, it’s easy to let fear and anxiety take over, making us feel overwhelmed and hopeless. But I’ve learned that we shouldn’t let the devil’s lies control us. Instead, we should be strong and believe that God is in control. He wants us to expect great things and have faith that everything will work out.
I remember I went to the eye doctor recently because my vision was blurry. I could have let fear set in when they referred me to a specialist for further glaucoma tests, but I chose to trust in God’s plan. Similarly, in 2018 when I was diagnosed with a nasopharyngeal tumor, I could have been consumed by fear, worries if it was cancer but with faith and the support of great medical professionals, like Dr Terrence Zipfel I underwent surgery at Salem Community Hospital in Salem Ohio and the tumor turned out to be benign.
I hold onto Jeremiah 29:11, which reminds me that God has plans for my welfare, not for evil, but for good and great things. By staying hopeful, reading the Bible, and strengthening my faith, I’ve learned to overcome fear and let go of worry.
So remember, even when things don’t go as planned, having faith and hope can lead us through difficult times. Ask God to show you his plan, it may be different than what you have in mind, and trust in God’s plan, pray, read your Bible, and watch your faith grow stronger. The devil has no place in our lives when we focus on God’s promises. Let’s choose hope over fear and walk confidently in faith.
During the initial week of Lent, Jesus embarked on a pivotal journey into the desert, guided by the Spirit, where he confronted temptation head-on. His forty-day fast culminated in a vulnerable state of hunger, laying the groundwork for the ultimate test of willpower.
Temptation, often misunderstood, does not inherently denote sinfulness. Rather, it serves as a crucible for testing one’s resolve and deepening spiritual insight. Jesus, the epitome of purity, faced temptation himself, demonstrating its universality. This shared experience highlights the delicate balance between human frailty and divine strength.
Although temptation originates outside the realm of divine influence, it serves a purpose within the divine plan. Through the lens of faith, one can perceive temptation as an opportunity for growth, a catalyst for refining one’s character. It beckons individuals to confront their innermost desires and align their choices with God’s will.
The narrative of Jesus’ desert temptation offers valuable insights into the nature of spiritual warfare. Each temptation presents a crossroad, a choice between succumbing to worldly desires or upholding spiritual integrity. The decision to resist temptation not only fortifies one’s resolve but also deepens their connection to the divine.
Five distinct blessings emerge from overcoming temptation. Firstly, it illuminates the presence of God’s strength in one’s life, underscoring the inherent power of faith. Secondly, it humbles the individual, dismantling pride and fostering a spirit of humility. Thirdly, it sharpens discernment, enabling one to recognize and rebuke the deceptions of the adversary.
Moreover, triumph over temptation cultivates virtuous habits, fortifying the soul against future challenges. Lastly, it signifies a shift in spiritual dynamics, wherein the diminishing influence of evil heralds a victory for holiness. In essence, overcoming temptation becomes a testament to the transformative power of grace.
However, the journey towards victory is not without its pitfalls. Repeated failures can erode one’s resolve and diminish their spiritual fervor. Yet, even in moments of weakness, redemption remains within reach. Through confession, prayer, and unwavering trust in divine providence, individuals can overcome any obstacle.
Reflecting on Jesus’ desert encounter, one finds solace in his unwavering resolve and steadfast faith. His triumph over temptation serves as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path towards spiritual victory. As followers of Christ, we are called to emulate his example, drawing strength from his divine presence and overcoming every trial that besets our path.
Amidst life’s twists and turns, have you ever paused to consider the divine sense of humor that God possesses? It’s remarkable how He orchestrates our paths, rerouting our plans and weaving people and circumstances together in unexpected ways. When everything seems to be falling apart and not going according to our carefully laid-out plans, it might just be a sign that God is at work behind the scenes.I
Proverbs 16:9 reminds us, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” This verse serves as a gentle nudge to trust in the divine guidance that is constantly at play in our lives. Even when we feel lost or disheartened, it’s crucial to remember that God is intricately involved in every aspect of our journey.
So, the next time you find yourself grappling with uncertainty or facing unforeseen challenges, take solace in the knowledge that God is working on your behalf. Embrace the unexpected detours and delays, for they might just be paving the way for something greater than you could have ever imagined. Just hold on a little longer, have faith, and believe that God’s divine plan is unfolding in ways that surpass our understanding.
May we find peace and reassurance in surrendering to God’s divine sense of humor and guidance, allowing Him to steer us towards the remarkable destinations He has in store for each one of us.
The Christmas season, with its joy and festivities, can amplify the struggles of those facing heartache, loss, illness, or hardship. In the midst of such difficulties, feelings of isolation and questions about faith may intensify. However, Psalms offers a comforting reminder: “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent forth his word and healed them, he rescued them from the grave.” (Psalm 107:19-20)
This verse serves as a beacon of hope for those grappling with adversity during the holidays. It emphasizes the power of reaching out to God in times of trouble, reaffirming that He not only hears but cares deeply. The assurance that God saves and heals remains unwavering.
The timeless truth that God’s word brings healing and rescue is a source of solace. This promise extends beyond the historical context; it speaks to the present. Through Christ, one can find profound healing—from physical ailments to emotional wounds, from the ache of loss to the chains of addiction.
Recognizing that God is aware of our struggles and pain, the invitation is clear: set aside fears and move towards Him in faith. Despite the challenges faced, the unchanging nature of God ensures that He still rescues and heals today. In this Christmas season, may the message of enduring hope and healing resonate, encouraging all to turn towards the source of ultimate restoration—faith in God’s unwavering love and transformative power.
In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, finding hope can often feel like an elusive pursuit. Yet, amidst the chaos, there are quiet moments, times when worries seem distant and prayers flow freely from the heart. It is in these precious moments that we can begin to practice being hopeful, embracing the connections we have in life, especially our connection to God.
1. Gratitude for Connections
During these quiet times, take a moment to reflect on the meaningful connections in your life. Whether it’s the support of family or the camaraderie of friends, acknowledging these relationships fosters a sense of gratitude. Recognize that the love we experience from others can be a manifestation of the divine love that surrounds us.
2. Acts of Kindness
Hope flourishes when we extend kindness to others. Helping someone in need, cheering up a neighbor, mentoring a child—these acts not only make a positive impact on others but also evoke a sense of purpose and fulfillment within ourselves. The cycle of love, from God to us and through us to others, becomes a powerful source of hope.
3. Affirmation of God’s Love
Start and end each day with a powerful affirmation: “God loves me, and I am worthy of His love.” Reminding yourself of this simple truth instills a sense of security and hope. This practice serves as a constant reassurance, a beacon of positivity that guides you through the challenges of each day.
4. Quiet Reflection
Carve out time in your day for quiet reflection. In these moments of stillness, meditate on the blessings in your life. Focus on the positive aspects, the moments that bring joy, and the strength you derive from your faith. Embracing the good amidst the chaos can significantly contribute to a hopeful mindset.
5. Living True to Principles
Hope is sustained when we live in alignment with our principles. Identify your core values and strive to uphold them in your daily life. Living authentically not only brings a sense of fulfillment but also reinforces a positive outlook, even in the face of challenges.
6. Embracing Purpose
Recognize that you have a purpose. Whether it’s in your career, relationships, or community involvement, understanding your purpose provides a roadmap for your journey. Having a sense of direction and meaning fuels hope and motivates you to overcome obstacles.
7. Holistic Self-Care
Acknowledge the interconnected nature of your well-being. Practice holistic self-care by taking care of your physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Nurture your body through healthy habits, prioritize your emotional balance through prayer and meditation, and feed your spirit with moments of reflection and connection with God.
The practice of being hopeful is a deliberate and transformative journey. It involves nurturing gratitude, spreading kindness, affirming God’s love, reflecting on the positive, living true to your principles, embracing purpose, and caring for your holistic well-being. By incorporating these practices into your daily life, you pave the way for a hopeful and fulfilling existence, even in the midst of life’s uncertainties.
Hello and welcome to this amazing Sunday I’m so glad you’re here with me in sunny Florida. I appreciate your loyalty and support so much. In today’s post, we’re going to explore the Bible and see what God says about joy. And then we’re going to learn tons of ways to find joy in the ordinary as well as ways to find joy in the journey. There’s absolutely no reason that we should be unhappy in this life we lead. Yet most of us are. We’re so focused on the end goal, that we forget to enjoy the moments along the way. It’s time we changed that, don’t you think? So, let’s dive in.
I think this will stretch out over a couple posts, because there is a lot to say on this.
What is the difference between happiness and joy? Many people wonder if there even is a difference between the two. Let’s look at the definitions. Dictionary.com defines happiness as “the quality or state of being happy; good fortune; pleasure, contentment; joy.” I believe in this definition, the key word is “state.” I looked up the definition of state and found, “the condition of a person or thing, as with respect to circumstances.” In other words happiness is temporary and depends on what’s happening.
Joy, on the other hand, is defined as “the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure; elation.” If you are a child of God, that “something that is exceptionally good” comes from the Lord. Joy is part of who you are. It’s a fruit of the spirit. Your joy doesn’t go away when something bad happens, like someone cutting you off in traffic or having a bad day. In other words, it is completely normal to experience joy in the ordinary, everyday aspects of life. I believe that there is a very real difference between happiness and joy. Joy is a conviction from the heart that comes from the Lord. It’s an internal emotion that doesn’t change regardless of what’s happening on any given day. Happiness, on the other hand, is a surface-level emotion that’s based on external factors.
How can we be happy according to the Bible? The Bible has a lot to say about happiness, but it uses a different word: joy. Joy is not a feeling that depends on our circumstances, but a gift that comes from God. When we trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, we receive the Holy Spirit, who fills us with joy and assures us of our eternal salvation. Joy is not something we have to work for, but something we already have in Christ.
One of the ways we can experience joy is by bearing the fruit of the Spirit. This means living in a way that reflects the character of God, who lives in us. The fruit of the Spirit has nine aspects, and joy is one of them. Joy is not something we do, but something we are. It is the result of following Jesus and staying connected to him.
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
How can we enjoy the simple things in life? The Bible also teaches us to be content with what we have and to give thanks in all circumstances. This means that we can find joy in the simple things in life, not just in the big events or achievements. We can appreciate the beauty of God’s creation, the warmth of a cup of coffee, the intimacy with our spouse and the hugs from our children. We can slow down and savor the moments that make life meaningful.
One way to do this is to be more spontaneous and creative. We can break the routine and try something new. We can surprise our loved ones with a note or a gift. We can have a picnic in the backyard or a movie night on the couch. We can make every day an adventure and an opportunity to show love.
Life is not a destination, but a journey. And joy is not a destination, but a companion. Let’s enjoy the ride with God and with each other.

Taking God at His Word: Finding Faith and Hope in His Promises
In our journey of faith, we often face challenges, struggles, and unanswered prayers. We may find ourselves questioning why things aren’t happening the way we expect or why we feel weary. However, it’s essential to realize that God’s promises are unwavering and trustworthy. When God speaks, He means it, and we need to wholeheartedly believe in His word even when circumstances seem discouraging. In this blog post, we will explore the importance of taking God at His word, finding solace in His promises, and living a life of faith and hope.
Understanding God’s Plan: Sometimes, we may struggle to comprehend God’s plan for our lives. It’s crucial to remember that everything happening in our lives is part of His greater purpose. Even when we make mistakes or wrong choices, God forgives us and guides us back to the right path through His word. By immersing ourselves in His teachings, we gain clarity and direction in our lives.
Embracing God’s Love: We mustn’t view God as a distant figure from an ancient story. He is an ever-present and loving Creator who cares deeply for each one of us. Despite our flaws and shortcomings, He loves us unconditionally. When we truly grasp His love, we can trust Him wholeheartedly and find comfort in His promises.
Holding on to Faith: Faith plays a vital role in our relationship with God. Even when we can’t see the fulfillment of His promises, we need to have unwavering faith. Believing in what God says, despite the circumstances, demonstrates our trust and reliance on Him. It is through faith that we experience His miracles and find strength during challenging times.
Living in His Word: The Bible is not just a collection of ancient stories; it is a living and relevant guidebook for our lives today. By immersing ourselves in God’s word, we gain wisdom, guidance, and encouragement. His promises and teachings reflect timeless truths that can transform our lives and bring us closer to Him.
Finding Hope in His Promises: One powerful way to reinforce our faith is through uplifting worship songs and testimonies. The song “I’ll Take You at Your Word” by Cody Carnes and Benjamin William Hastings is an example of a beautiful reminder that Jesus never fails us. It highlights the importance of standing firm in our faith and trusting God’s promises no matter what we face.

There is no doubt that in today’s fast-paced world, technology has become an integral part of our lives. Our cell phones have become a constant companion that we cannot imagine living without, but what about the Bible? The Bible, which contains the word of God and provides guidance on how to live a fulfilling and meaningful life, often takes a backseat to our devices. However, if we treated our Bible with the same level of importance as our cell phone, the world would undoubtedly be a better place.
In Psalm 119:105, it is written, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” This verse highlights the importance of the Bible in providing us with guidance and direction in our lives. By reading and studying the Bible, we can gain insight into how to navigate the complexities of life and make wise choices. Similarly, in Joshua 1:8, it is stated that we should meditate on God’s word day and night so that we may observe and do all that is written in it. This suggests that by immersing ourselves in scripture, we can become better equipped to apply its teachings in our daily lives.
Moreover, the Bible teaches us about the importance of developing a relationship with God. In John 15:5, it is written, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” This verse reminds us that we need to stay connected to God through prayer, worship, and study of His word. It is only by remaining close to Him that we can bear fruit in our lives and share God’s love with others.
So download a Bible on your cell phone or start carrying your Bible and give yourself to start 5-10 minutes a day.
