From Exclusion to Belonging: Defeating the ‘Outside-Looking-In Syndrome'”

I once suffered from what I’ve come to call the ‘On-The-Outside-Looking-In Syndrome.’ This feeling of being an outsider, of not quite fitting in, not being good enough, took root during my first marriage. In those days, my insecurities ran deep, and I couldn’t seem find my place in the world, I was so busy trying to make everything perfect so I didn’t get beat up which never seemed to work. I was told how ugly I was, no one would ever love me, how I was nothing, worthless, I was called a whore when I couldn’t really go anywhere, when he lied to me he turned the table and called me a liar, I was told this and called many other vulgar names and he controlled so much of my life, where I worked, when to come home, what time dinner better be ready, I felt like a prisoner of war.

The struggle was undeniably real. It was during these challenging times that I developed a deep affection for the shepherds place in my nativity scene every Christmas. If I told my 1st husband how much I loved them he surely would have broken them. So I acted as if it was no big deal when in my heart it was.

When I reflect on the time of Jesus’ birth, it becomes apparent that there likely wasn’t a shepherd anywhere who didn’t grapple with this ‘Outside-Looking-In Syndrome.’ Shepherds were not just looked down upon; they were actively despised. In fact, according to Jewish law, not even an obligation existed to help a shepherd out of a pit if they fell in. It was as if society had deemed them invisible.

Shepherds were shunned from religious circles and occupied the lowest rung on the social ladder. No one extended a warm welcome to them at the temple door, and invitations to popular gatherings were simply unheard of. On top of all this, shepherds were unfairly branded as thieves, irrespective of their actual conduct.

Imagine this: there they were, isolated and ineligible, “out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night” (Luke 2:8, ESV). And then, in an astounding turn of events, “an angel of the Lord appeared to them” (Luke 2:9, ESV).

In that transformative moment, God chose to deliver the Good News of Jesus Christ directly to these marginalized individuals. The stir this created in their lives and communities must have been nothing short of extraordinary. I often wonder about the conversations that followed.

But why did God select the shepherds? The answer lies in the heart of Jesus. No matter how ineligible or unworthy we may feel, He reaches down, beckons us to belong, and elevates us by making us His own. After all, He is The Good Shepherd.

When I place those unassuming ceramic shepherds in our manger scene, they serve as a poignant reminder that in Christ, we find acceptance before God. In Christ, we belong. In Christ, we are wanted.

After I finally had the courage and strength to get out and stay gone. I met people who valued me, loved me and knew I was worthy. And this built my self esteem up again and I became me again.

As you go about your day, remember that you are not an outsider looking in. In Christ, you have found your place, and you are cherished. May you have a blessed day, filled with the peace that comes from knowing you are wanted and loved.

Have a Blessed Day

In life, we often find ourselves in situations where we feel like we’re on the outside looking in, even when we used to be part of the “in crowd.” As we age, this sensation can become more pronounced. This blog post explores the concept of the “Outside Looking In” syndrome and offers insights into how to navigate it with grace and self-awareness.

Observe Your Experience, Don’t Make It Wrong:
One of the first steps in addressing this feeling is to observe our experience without judgment. Instead of automatically assuming that others are right and we are wrong, we should practice neutral observation. By doing so, we open ourselves up to consider other possibilities and explore our options. This approach can lead to questions like, “What would make me feel comfortable? Where else do I feel at ease?”

Look Inward, Not Outward:
When we catch ourselves watching others having a good time, it’s crucial to turn our attention inward. Instead of comparing ourselves to them, we can view our negative feelings as feedback rather than as reasons for self-judgment. This shift allows us to explore what truly makes us happy and to consider alternative ways to have the experiences we desire.

Consider the Possibility That You Are Creating a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy:
Continually making ourselves wrong in such situations only perpetuates the cycle of negative feelings. Each encounter with the feeling of being disconnected from others taps into unresolved emotions from the past, intensifying our sense of “wrongness.” By considering alternatives and breaking this cycle, we can prevent this perspective from becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Pay Attention to What Works for You and What Doesn’t:
A crucial part of addressing this syndrome is to pay attention to what brings us fulfillment and what doesn’t. By using our own feedback to create more of what works for us, we can improve our overall well-being. This process is akin to mastering the art of living, leading to more satisfaction and joy in our lives.

Look Elsewhere:
Sometimes, the best solution is to explore other options and environments. If we find that a particular situation doesn’t make us happy, we shouldn’t force ourselves to fit in. Instead, we should seek out experiences where we naturally belong and feel good about ourselves. It’s about choosing happiness over conformity and being committed to finding our own path.

The “Outside Looking In” syndrome can affect people of all ages. However, as we grow older, it becomes even more essential to prioritize our own happiness and fulfillment. By observing our experiences without judgment, looking inward, considering alternatives, and paying attention to what truly works for us, we can break the cycle of feeling disconnected and create a more fulfilling life that aligns with our authentic selves. Ultimately, this approach helps us honor our own truth and trust that we belong in this world just the way we are.

Biblical Inspiration for Bloggers: Unveiling God’s Guidance for Your Blogging Journey

Are there bible verses for bloggers? Absolutely! The Bible is a treasure trove of wisdom and inspiration for every facet of a blogger’s life. We all desire to align our work with God’s purpose, whether we’re delving into style, entertaining, travel, or any other niche. If you seek divine encouragement for your blogging journey, let’s explore seven Bible verses that resonate with bloggers—words from the very first Creator!

  1. Psalm 37:23-24: “The Lord guides the steps of the faithful and takes delight in their daily lives. Even if they stumble, they will not fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.”
  2. Ephesians 6:7: “Work with zeal as if you’re working for the Lord, not merely for people.”

God calls us all to lead a purpose-driven life, extending to how we spend our days and what we write, regardless of the topic. Can you blog about a recipe or a DIY project and still blog with purpose? Absolutely! We can blog to inspire, encourage, teach, and bless others, irrespective of the subject matter. The Lord promises to guide our paths and takes joy in every detail of our lives, including our passions. Writing with purpose starts with seeking the Lord’s plan for your life’s work. Remembering the ‘why’ behind what you do and maintaining a single-minded focus are vital. The blogging world is filled with distractions, but staying on the path God has laid out for you is paramount.

  1. Ephesians 2:10: “For we are God’s masterpiece, created anew in Christ Jesus to do the good things He planned for us long ago.”

God, the ultimate Creator, has blessed you with the gift of creativity to share with others. As a blogger, you may have days when ideas flow endlessly, and others when doubts creep in. In those moments, take solace in the fact that God calls you His masterpiece. He crafted you to do good things with the unique gifts He bestowed upon you. There’s no need to compare yourself to other bloggers; instead, focus on creating in line with His guidance. When you feel stuck, trust that the great Creator will provide the creativity you need.

  1. 1 Peter 4:10, 11: “God has given each of you a gift from His diverse spiritual gifts. Use them to serve one another with the strength and energy He supplies. By doing so, everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ.”
  2. 1 Thessalonians 5:11: “Encourage and uplift one another, just as you are already doing.”

Every woman craves encouragement, and we believe the Lord has called us, including you, to be sources of encouragement! Think about it this way: whether you’re writing about a project, a recipe, style, or travel, you have the power to inspire and uplift others. Since starting my blog in August 2014, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the support I’ve received from fellow bloggers. I, in turn, aim to comment on and share the posts of those who inspire me. Let’s cheer each other on in this blogging journey!

  1. James 3:17-18: “God’s wisdom is pure, peaceful, gentle, and readily available to help those in distress and to do good for others. It’s always fair and honest. Those who promote peace in a gentle manner sow a harvest of righteousness.”
  2. James 1:5: “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will grant it.”

I yearn for God’s wisdom in everything I do. The verses above remind me why it’s crucial to seek His wisdom daily. Rather than relying on my own wisdom, I desire the Lord’s. His wisdom is peaceful, gentle, and ready to help those in need, a stark contrast to the turmoil of self-reliance. The Lord reveals the characteristics of His wisdom and how to obtain it. There’s no need to work longer hours, read more books, or follow fleeting trends. All we need to do is ask our generous God, and He willingly imparts it. What a reassuring thought! This knowledge frees us to create and write with divine wisdom as our guide.

Seeking God in the Bible: A 10-Minute Daily Guide

The Bible is a profound source of spiritual wisdom and insight for millions around the world. For those looking to connect with God and understand His purpose, it can be a guiding light. In this blog post, we’ll explore how to look for God in the Bible and provide a simple guide to reading it daily for just 10 minutes.

  1. Start with an Open Heart:

To truly find God in the Bible, approach it with an open heart and mind. Set aside any preconceived notions, and be willing to listen and learn.

  1. Prayer:

Begin with a brief prayer, asking for guidance and understanding. As mentioned in Matthew 7:7, asking is the first step in seeking God.

  1. Select a Specific Passage:

You don’t need to read the entire Bible in one go. Choose a specific passage, verse, or story that resonates with you. It could be a favorite scripture or something relevant to your current situation.

  1. Read Slowly and Reflect:

Take your chosen passage and read it slowly. Reflect on the words and their meaning. Consider how they relate to your life and the world around you.

  1. Ask Questions:

As you read, ask yourself questions. What is the message? How does it apply to your life? What can you learn from it? This interactive approach deepens your understanding.

  1. Keep a Journal:

Maintain a journal to record your thoughts, insights, and any personal revelations. This practice can help you track your spiritual journey over time.

  1. Consistency is Key:

Reading the Bible for just 10 minutes each day can yield profound results over time. Consistency is more important than quantity.

  1. Use Bible Apps and Resources:

There are numerous Bible apps and websites that offer daily devotionals, plans, and verse recommendations. These can help you stay on track and provide insights.

  1. Seek Guidance:

If you’re struggling to understand a particular passage, don’t hesitate to seek guidance from a trusted friend, pastor, or religious leader. Discussion can lead to deeper insights.

  1. Apply What You Learn:

Ultimately, the goal is not just to find God in the Bible but to apply what you learn to your daily life. Practice the principles and values you discover in your readings.

Finding God in the Bible is a personal and transformative journey. As Jesus encouraged, asking, seeking, and knocking will open the door to spiritual discovery. By dedicating just 10 minutes a day to reading the Bible, you can deepen your understanding, build a stronger connection with God, and find meaning and purpose in your life. Approach this journey with an open heart and a commitment to consistency, and you will discover the richness of God’s word.

Embracing Happy Magnificent Mondays: A Personal Reflection

Happy Magnificent Monday, everyone! As the new work week dawns upon many us, I find myself filled with a sense of gratitude and purpose. It’s a day that sets the tone for the rest of the week, and I want to share some thoughts and inspirations with you all.

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it’s easy to get caught up in the routine of work, responsibilities, and the never-ending to-do lists. But as we embark on this new week, I’m reminded of the importance of dedicating our efforts to a higher purpose, a purpose that transcends the tasks on our desks.

One Bible verse that has always resonated with me and guides my approach to Mondays and every day is Colossians 3:23 (NIV): “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” This verse serves as a beautiful reminder that our work should be an offering to the divine, and it encourages us to give our very best, pouring our hearts into our endeavors.

But it’s not just about working diligently; it’s also about cultivating a spirit of gratitude. Practicing gratitude can transform our outlook on life. Even on the busiest Mondays, take a moment to count your blessings, big and small. Gratitude helps us find joy in the little things and appreciates the journey we’re on.

In addition to dedicating our work to a higher purpose and embracing gratitude, let’s also make an effort to be kind to others, especially strangers. We never truly know the battles someone else may be fighting, and a simple act of kindness can make a world of difference in their day. Kindness is a ripple effect; it not only brightens someone else’s life but also brings a sense of fulfillment to our own.

To encapsulate the spirit of Happy Magnificent Monday, I’d like to share a positive quote for the day: “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” – Steve Jobs

So, as we embark on this week, let’s remember to work for a higher purpose, embrace gratitude, and spread kindness wherever we go. Let’s make this Happy Magnificent Monday the start of a remarkable week filled with purpose and positivity. Have a blessed day, my friends!

Joy

Hello and welcome to this amazing Sunday I’m so glad you’re here with me in sunny Florida. I appreciate your loyalty and support so much.
In today’s post, we’re going to explore the Bible and see what God says about joy. And then we’re going to learn tons of ways to find joy in the ordinary as well as ways to find joy in the journey. There’s absolutely no reason that we should be unhappy in this life we lead. Yet most of us are. We’re so focused on the end goal, that we forget to enjoy the moments along the way. It’s time we changed that, don’t you think? So, let’s dive in.

I think this will stretch out over a couple posts, because there is a lot to say on this.

What is the difference between happiness and joy?
Many people wonder if there even is a difference between the two. Let’s look at the definitions. Dictionary.com defines happiness as “the quality or state of being happy; good fortune; pleasure, contentment; joy.” I believe in this definition, the key word is “state.” I looked up the definition of state and found, “the condition of a person or thing, as with respect to circumstances.” In other words happiness is temporary and depends on what’s happening.

Joy, on the other hand, is defined as “the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure; elation.” If you are a child of God, that “something that is exceptionally good” comes from the Lord. Joy is part of who you are. It’s a fruit of the spirit.
Your joy doesn’t go away when something bad happens, like someone cutting you off in traffic or having a bad day. In other words, it is completely normal to experience joy in the ordinary, everyday aspects of life.
I believe that there is a very real difference between happiness and joy. Joy is a conviction from the heart that comes from the Lord. It’s an internal emotion that doesn’t change regardless of what’s happening on any given day. Happiness, on the other hand, is a surface-level emotion that’s based on external factors.

How can we be happy according to the Bible?
The Bible has a lot to say about happiness, but it uses a different word: joy. Joy is not a feeling that depends on our circumstances, but a gift that comes from God. When we trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, we receive the Holy Spirit, who fills us with joy and assures us of our eternal salvation. Joy is not something we have to work for, but something we already have in Christ.

One of the ways we can experience joy is by bearing the fruit of the Spirit. This means living in a way that reflects the character of God, who lives in us. The fruit of the Spirit has nine aspects, and joy is one of them. Joy is not something we do, but something we are. It is the result of following Jesus and staying connected to him.

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

How can we enjoy the simple things in life?
The Bible also teaches us to be content with what we have and to give thanks in all circumstances. This means that we can find joy in the simple things in life, not just in the big events or achievements. We can appreciate the beauty of God’s creation, the warmth of a cup of coffee, the intimacy with our spouse and the hugs from our children. We can slow down and savor the moments that make life meaningful.

One way to do this is to be more spontaneous and creative. We can break the routine and try something new. We can surprise our loved ones with a note or a gift. We can have a picnic in the backyard or a movie night on the couch. We can make every day an adventure and an opportunity to show love.

Life is not a destination, but a journey. And joy is not a destination, but a companion. Let’s enjoy the ride with God and with each other.

Part 2 will be posted Thursday

See you all tomorrow

Starting Your Day Right

Starting Your Day Right: A Better Alternative to Morning Phone Scrolling

Hey there,

I wanted to talk to you about something that’s become all too common in our modern lives, especially in the mornings. You wake up, reach for your phone, and are faced with a decision: do you start scrolling through social media or dive into the day ahead? It’s a choice many of us face, and I’d like to share some insights that might just change how you begin your mornings.

To shed some light on this dilemma, I conducted a survey back in 2021. I asked around a thousand people about their smartphone and social media habits, and the results were both fascinating and eye-opening. Here’s what I found: half of the respondents admitted to scrolling through their phones within the first few minutes of waking up. This number went up to over 60 percent among those aged 19-33. And a whopping 80 percent confessed that they usually checked texts, emails, and social media before spending time with God in the morning. Really?!

But let’s be realistic– starting the day by scrolling through your phone is like having chocolate cereal for breakfast or a oozing sweet cinnamon roll. It might be a tempting indulgence, but it’s not exactly healthy for your mind and soul.

So, given these stats, let’s talk about a better approach to those precious moments just after waking up.

First, let’s dive into the reasons why we’re so prone to reaching for our phones. I’ve come up with six possible explanations, and I call the first three “candy motives.”

  1. FOMO fear of missing out: We crave the novelty of what’s new in the world or among our friends. We want to be in the know and not feel left out.
  2. Ego Boost : Checking for likes, comments, and mentions strokes our ego. We enjoy being noticed and acknowledged.
  3. Entertainment : We seek entertainment to make those first few moments more interesting. We’re drawn to the endless stream of captivating content online.

Then, there are the “avoidance motives,” which are about escaping or delaying facing the realities of the day:

  1. Boredom : We avoid facing the day’s perceived boredom by getting lost in our phones.
  2. Avoiding Responsibility : We delay confronting our responsibilities by immersing ourselves in our phones.
  3. Struggle and Frustration Avoidance: When we’re dealing with challenges, we turn to our phones to avoid confronting them immediately.

Now, imagine a better way to begin your day – a way that centers you, aligns you with God’s will, and prepares you to face whatever comes your way. Picture yourself waking up with the intention of being filled with the Holy Spirit, seeking God’s guidance, and finding satisfaction in His presence.

“O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.” – Psalm 5:3

So, how do we transition to this better way? It requires intentionality and planning. Start by seeking God’s steadfast love in the morning. Cry out to Him, acknowledging your need and your desire to align your heart with His. Open your Bible and meditate on His promises. Ask Him to satisfy you with His love and to guide your steps throughout the day.

Psalm 90:14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Psalm 46:5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Psalm 143:8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you.

Remember, this change won’t happen overnight. It takes conscious decisions and a commitment to start your day in a way that sets the tone for your interactions, decisions, and attitudes.

So, before you go to bed tonight, set a plan. Break free from the grip of phone addiction and the habits of avoidance. Instead, wake up, turn to God’s Word, spend time in prayer, and allow His presence to shape your day. Make the choice to feed your soul with God’s truth and love, and experience the transformative power of beginning your day with Him.

May your mornings be filled with purpose, peace, and a deeper connection to God.

Have a blessed day

As the sun rises on another week, we find ourselves stepping into the embrace of Magnificent Monday. For some, the beginning of the workweek might feel like a daunting task, but let’s take a moment to shift our perspective. This day isn’t just the start of another week of work; it’s the commencement of new challenges, fresh opportunities, and another chance to make our mark on the world.

A New Challenge:
Mondays have a way of presenting us with a new set of challenges to tackle. But remember, challenges are the stepping stones to growth and success. Each obstacle we encounter is an opportunity to learn, adapt, and become stronger. So, let’s welcome these challenges with open arms, knowing that they are the catalysts for our personal and professional development.

A New Beginning:
Just as the sun rises anew each day, so does the promise of a fresh start with every Magnificent Monday. Each Monday offers a clean slate, a chance to create the story you want to tell by week’s end.

A Wonderful Blessing:
Perhaps the most beautiful aspect of Magnificent Monday is the reminder that we are alive and well, granted another day to explore, dream, and achieve. The mere act of waking up and stepping into the world is a blessing we often take for granted. Let’s shift our focus from the worries of the week ahead to the gratitude we feel for being given the gift of today. This day is an opportunity to create memories, form connections, and make a positive impact on both our lives and the lives of others.

As you sip your morning coffee and take those first steps into the week, remember that Magnificent Monday is not just another day on the calendar. Embrace this day with open arms, a hopeful heart, and the knowledge that you have the power to turn every Monday into a magnificent beginning.

Magnificent Monday:

Wish You a Marvelous start to the week!

Remember: Each new day is a blank page in the diary of your life.” – Unknown

Todays Bible Verse: “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” – Psalm 118:24

As we journey forward, our belief in a higher power keeps us grounded, reminding us to remain faithful and embrace positivity.

In a world that often tests us, we choose to believe in the goodness that surrounds us. By focusing on faith, blessings, and the positive aspects of life, we’re paving a pathway to brighter days. With gratitude in our hearts for the grace we’ve received, we treasure every facet of our existence, both large and small.

Allow the wisdom and guidance within these sacred words to fill your heart and remind you of the blessings that surround you.

Moreover, let’s not forget to pause and appreciate the beauty around us.
