Discerning the Voice of God

Happy Sunday !

Do you ever hear God speaking to you? Are you unsure ?

As believers, we should always be receptive to guidance from the Lord. However, discerning whether a prompting is truly from Him can often be challenging. Thankfully, the Word of God provides us with clear principles to help us determine His voice.

Throughout my life, I have experienced God’s voice during critical moments—offering warnings or comfort when I needed it most. But the question remains: Are we listening?

Romans 8:14 reminds us that “those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” As His children, we are entitled to be led by the Spirit. Yet, we may still find ourselves questioning, “Is this truly the Lord?”

The story of Elijah in 1 Kings 19 illustrates how God often speaks not through dramatic events but through a gentle whisper (1 Kings 19:12). If a prompting feels like chaos or confusion, it likely isn’t from God. More often than not, His guidance comes quietly, inviting us to listen closely.

In James 3:17, we learn about the characteristics of wisdom from heaven: it is pure, peace-loving, considerate, full of mercy, and sincere. When faced with a decision, ask yourself:

  • Is this leading godly and pure?
  • Does it promote peace?
  • Is it considerate and merciful?
  • Does it bear good fruit?

Conversely, if it feels earthly, unspiritual, or even hints at envy or selfish ambition, reject it. These traits lead us away from God’s true path.

Additionally, consider the gifts of the Holy Spirit as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:7. Will this gift serve the common good? Is it rooted in love and aimed at encouraging others?

Finally, Isaiah 8:20 tells us that any leading from God will align with Scripture. The Bible is our compass; if a prompting contradicts its teachings, it cannot be from God.

In summary, as we seek to discern God’s voice, let us be guided by the peace, purity, and scriptural alignment of what we hear. May we always strive to listen attentively and respond faithfully.

Finding Strength in Serving the Lord: A Reflection on Joshua 24:15

In Joshua 24:15, the verse “but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord” encapsulates a powerful declaration of faith and commitment. While the promise to serve the Lord is steadfast, it’s essential to recognize that this commitment doesn’t exempt us from life’s challenges. Instead, it empowers us with the strength and resilience needed to navigate through them.

Serving the Lord doesn’t promise a life free from problems, hardships, or trials. In fact, throughout the Bible, we encounter numerous examples of faithful individuals who faced immense struggles despite their devotion to God. However, what sets them apart is their unwavering trust and reliance on the Lord to see them through.

When we choose to serve the Lord, we are not promised immunity from adversity, but we are assured of His presence with us every step of the way. This presence provides us with the strength, courage, and wisdom necessary to confront and overcome whatever challenges may come our way.

One of the key aspects of serving the Lord is the transformation it brings to our perspective. Instead of viewing problems as insurmountable obstacles, we see them as opportunities for growth and refinement. Through our trials, we learn to lean on God’s strength rather than our own, trusting in His plans even when they seem beyond our understanding.

Moreover, serving the Lord fosters a sense of community and support within our households. When we make the conscious decision to prioritize God in our lives, we create an environment where faith, love, and grace abound. As a result, we can draw strength from one another as we journey together in serving the Lord.

Furthermore, serving the Lord enables us to find meaning and purpose in the midst of our struggles. Rather than allowing difficulties to overwhelm us, we can channel our energies into serving others and making a positive difference in the world around us. In doing so, we discover that our trials have the potential to become testimonies of God’s faithfulness and provision.

Ultimately, serving the Lord isn’t a guarantee of a trouble-free life, but it is a source of unfailing strength and hope. It’s a daily choice to trust in God’s promises, to seek His guidance, and to rely on His unfailing love. And as we journey through life with this unwavering commitment, we can rest assured that we will emerge stronger, more resilient, and more deeply rooted in our faith than ever before. So, let us echo the words of Joshua: “but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Encounters In Our Lives

We are called to be catalysts for each other’s growth and success, to uplift and empower one another to reach our fullest potential.

As we journey through life, let us remember the profound impact of believing in others. Our encouragement, support, and belief in their abilities can ignite the spark that propels them toward their destiny. Like a beacon of light, let our faith in others shine brightly, guiding them through the darkness of doubt and fear.

In Philippians 2:3-4, the Bible reminds us, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Through selfless love and genuine care, we can inspire and empower those around us, enabling them to embrace their true potential and fulfill the purpose for which they were created. Let us be vessels of hope, agents of encouragement, and champions of each other’s dreams.

In Romans 8:28, it’s written, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” This powerful verse reminds us that even in the midst of trials, God is working behind the scenes for our benefit. Every setback is an opportunity for growth, every obstacle a chance to strengthen our faith.

When we shift our perspective and choose to see the positive in negative events, we unlock the transformative power of God’s love. Instead of dwelling on our struggles, we can rejoice in the knowledge that each challenge is a stepping stone on the path to fulfillment.

God handpicked you, even if you feel like an outsider. Regardless of your past, background, or perceived inadequacies, God chooses you. The world may say you’re not qualified or that you don’t fit in, but God’s response is, “You’re exactly who I’m looking for.” He specializes in choosing strangers, those who don’t conform to societal expectations, those with flaws and weaknesses.

In Jeremiah 1:5, God declares that He knew and approved you before you were even formed in your mother’s womb. You’re not just chosen; you have a calling and greatness within you. Don’t let the enemy’s lies make you feel left out or unworthy. God has a history of choosing unexpected individuals, like David, a shepherd boy who became the king of Israel, and Moses, who led the Israelites despite his flaws.

Even Jesus, instead of choosing the expected candidates, picked fishermen and tax collectors as his disciples. He didn’t go for the most qualified; he chose those with imperfections. Similarly, God’s choice of you isn’t based on your flaws or background. He knew every mistake you would make, every struggle you’d face, and still, He chose you.

Don’t disqualify yourself; God’s calling on your life is unchangeable. Start each day acknowledging that you are chosen and approved by the Creator of the universe. You are a masterpiece, fearfully and wonderfully made. People may disapprove or look down on you, but their opinions don’t matter when you have Almighty God’s approval.

Your past struggles and setbacks haven’t disqualified you; they’ve prepared you for where God is taking you. You are a perfect fit for your assignment. Instead of dwelling on what could have been, embrace the fact that God considered everything and still chose you. Hold your head high, knowing that your worth comes from being chosen by God.

Just A Nobody

I listen to Z88.3 Orlando it’s a Christian radio station and I just love all the talks, music etc….

I listened to KLOVE when I lived in Ohio.

One of my favorite songs is by Casting Crowns called Nobody.

It’s basically saying what I have thought for the past few years, why me? Why was I selected and lead to take ministry classes? To be ordained when I am so flawed? We all have flaws but I wonder why God lead me to take classes the ultimately led me to become ordained.

Was it to teach me how to become better, wiser?

I’m just an ordinary person spreading the word about Jesus. In ways of stories I create , thoughts I have . And teachings I have studied as well as my own Life experiences etc..

The mystery of why You chose me Lord has persisted throughout my life. I’ve often been told that I belong at the end of the line with the Not-Quites and the Never-Get-It-Rights and How can you be a minister you used to swear smoke, etc….

As the song goes

I’m just a nobody, sharing the story of Somebody who saved my soul. Since You rescued me, my heart now sings a song,

In moments of doubt, when the devil questions my worth, I confidently respond that I’m just a nobody proclaiming Somebody great.

The stories of Moses’ stage fright and David facing a sword with a rock remind me that outsiders like the twelve You picked can change the world. Everyone has a purpose, and when the devil questions my identity, I assert that I’m just a nobody proclaiming Somebody who saved my soul.

Thank you Lord for saving me and allowing me to spread your word

And in the spirit of the message, let’s reflect on Psalm 27:1 – “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

A Fabulous Friday in the Glow of Advent: December 8, 2023

As I bask in the glow of this fabulous Friday, December 8, 2023, I find myself immersed in the enchanting spirit of Advent. We’re joyously navigating our way through the second week, and there’s an air of anticipation that envelops the day. Advent, for those unfamiliar, is a season of preparation and expectation observed by Christians around the world as they eagerly await the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

In this second week of Advent, we focus on the theme of love. It’s a time to reflect on the profound love that God has bestowed upon us through the gift of His Son. As I contemplate the significance of this week, two Christian Bible verses come to mind, each resonating with the essence of love and the anticipation of Christ’s arrival.

  1. 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV):
    “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” This verse from Corinthians beautifully encapsulates the core message of the second week of Advent. Love is the focal point, reminding us that amidst the hustle and bustle of the season, it’s the love we share with one another that truly matters.
  2. 1 John 4:16 (NIV):
    “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and anyone who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in them.” John’s words serve as a poignant reminder that our connection with God is intricately woven through the fabric of love. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” These verses encapsulate the profound essence of allowing God to be our guide.

The Foundation of Trust:
At its core, trusting in God is a profound commitment. It’s a surrendering of our understanding, an acknowledgment that our finite perspectives may not always grasp the grand design of God’s plan. Trust becomes the bridge between our uncertainties and the unwavering certainty of divine guidance.

The Path to Alignment:
Leaning on our own understanding can often lead us astray, clouded by our limited knowledge and perspectives. However, when we choose to acknowledge God in every facet of our lives, we invite His wisdom to align our paths. It’s an intentional choice to let go of control and embrace the assurance that comes with trusting in a higher power.

Trusting in God is not a passive act but an active journey. It requires us to release our anxieties, doubts, and fears into His capable hands. A Prayer for Times When God’s Plan Is Unseen

When life stands still, hearing God’s guidance becomes challenging, like an elusive event that sporadically occurs. Even in our daily devotion and prayers, it can feel as though no doors open, leaving us with only silence.

Salvation is not just about believing in the Savior and anticipating eternity with Him; it’s about gaining a lifelong companion in the Holy Spirit, who dwells within us. Seeking the Lord allows the Holy Spirit to provide wisdom, guidance, and comfort.

Throughout my life, I’ve actively chosen to follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance for major decisions. When choices loomed, God would close all but one door, revealing His path. Now, as I wait for a door to open on my current journey, my hope wanes.

Before hope fades entirely, I turn to the Word of God, my wellspring of life. Flipping to the Psalms, I find solace in David’s timeless words, feeling his vulnerability as he cried out to the Lord.

The waiting period can be more challenging than receiving a clear “no.” Yet, I know that God’s timing is perfect, and His silence is His message to wait on Him.

In prayer, I recall God’s promise of perfect timing and His eternal plan. I admit my struggle, fearing God can’t hear me. But I resolve to draw closer to Him, resisting the temptation to take matters into my own hands.

As we all navigate life’s deserts and endure growing silence, I pray for comfort and peace. May the Holy Spirit remind us that God is present even in the unknown.

I pray for the day when that one door will open. I pray that our trust and faith in God remain unshaken. We love and trust you, our Father, Friend, and Confidant. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
